  • Winner of the Petplan Veterinary Nurse of the Year 2018 - Anna Ashworth!

We are incredibly pleased to announce that Anna Ashworth (RVN, R-SQP) has won the prestigious Petplan Veterinary Nurse of the Year Award 2018! Anna was nominated for the award by colleagues at the practice who recognised her passion for her work and the commitment she shows to her role as being above and beyond the call of duty.

As well as her dedicated companion animal work, Anna is also the practice’s Farm Vet Tech who has helped to drive our health planning services forward for the farm animal side of the practice. She has been integral in setting up the Flock Health Club for sheep farmers, is an AMTRA qualified R-SQP, MSD Lameness Advisor and continues to develop her skills and knowledge professionally through ongoing training.

Anna was shortlisted from over 22,000 nominations to become one of three finalists and was invited to attend the awards ceremony in Birmingham earlier this month. This is a prestigious achievement which is judged by experienced veterinary professionals and leaders from the industry’s governing bodies. It has never been won by a nurse whose work focuses on the farm side of veterinary practice and we are very proud Anna’s accomplishments.

Anna’s superb work ethic, skills and dedication blew the judging panel away; they thought her work was innovative and the fact that she is involved in educating farmers in meaningful and practicable ways about hot topics such as anthelmintic resistance and reducing antibiotic usage was incredibly important. Well done Anna!

  • Stop Press - Poop Patrol!

There is a lot in the press at the moment regarding picking up and disposing of dog faeces. Here at Dalehead we strongly advise that you clean up your dog's poo immediately in a suitable and preferably biodegradeable receptacle and dispose of it in the nearest bin provided (not under the nearest hedgerow!). Whilst some dog waste bins have been removed by councils many have now replaced old litter bins with dual function bins so there is usually one close to hand but if not, why not invest in a 'Woofle' - a poo carry bag which is available to buy from the surgery as well as our strong, biodegradeable poo bags in packs of 100 for £1.00 - a penny a poop!

As responsible and considerate dog owners it is our duty to reduce the risk of infectious diseases which can be spread to humans (particularly children), other dogs, wildlife and farmstock. We have created a guidance leaflet for when walking out in the beautiful countryside we live in which is available to download here.
