Microchipping your Pet
We use Tracer Slimline Identichips, scanners and the Petlog database which is available 24 hours a day and the pet is registered for life. The chips are highly inert with little risk of reaction and, being placed between the shoulders, there is little risk of it moving from the insertion site. The scanners are excellent readers, reading a wide range of chip types and reading from a 15-20cm scanning distance, so the chip is easier to find. The Petlog database The Tracer chips are picked up by all ISO standard scanners at home and abroad.
So, if your microchipped pet should be unfortunate enough to find themselves lost at a vet practice, local authority dog pound, police station, airport or sea port at home or abroad, the chip would be scanned and the unique number linked to your contact details via the database. Call the surgery now on 01729 823538 to book an appointment with one of our fully qualified nurses.
Reasons to microchip:
- If your pet is lost, he or she can easily be identified with a microchip. Often pets can be reunited with their owners within hours of becoming separated.
- Permanent peace of mind. Unlike normal collar tags, which can often get lost, break off or are easily removed in the case of theft, microchips cannot be removed; they are a permanent and safe alternative that gives pets the best chance of returning home.
- The procedure is a quick injection that is relatively painless. Bringing your pet in to be microchipped is quick and easy – it can be done during our free nurse clinics. Simply call us on 01729 823538 to make an appointment.
- All dogs over the age of 8 weeks old must be microchipped with their registered keeper's details recorded on a recognised database.
