AMTRA is the Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority
They are an independent regulatory body whose task it is to ensure that the marketing and distribution of animal medicines in the UK is undertaken in a responsible manner by AMTRA qualified persons.
AMTRA sets a group of examinations, in which passes are needed in various areas to qualify. Once qualified you become a ‘Suitable Qualified Person’ (SQP).
An SQP can prescribe and advise on animal medicines that are registered as POM-VPS (previously known as PML) within their relevant categories. In the practice we Kate Soldado who is an E-SQP and can advise on equine and companion animal products.
The responsibility of an SQP is to give impartial advice on the products they are authorised to sell. They can also assist in devising health plans within their areas of expertise.
